Text written while making the work:
This wall here was built for this exhibition space and this exhibition space was built to house art exhibitions. For this reason the walls of the space have a particular quality. They are covered with panels that are attached on top of the actual walls of the museum. The panels are designed especially for hanging up pictures, paintings and other things that hang on screws or nails. But this panel here seems to hang with the help of metal corners that have been placed on its lower edge and on both of its side edges. Our attention has been directed to the materiality of this panel as we see the four metal corners that carry its weight. However, when we come closer we see that the weight we sensed a moment ago has disappeared, or rather it has been relocated to the metal corners. We see that this is in fact a typical way of using this panel wall. The metal corners are screwed onto the panel, instead of the actual wall thereunder. The metal corners are hanging and have therefore no practical utility as such. In fact they are not metal corners. They are metal objects shaped like metal corners.
